Castor oil is a thick, odorless oil made from the seeds of the castor plant. Its use dates back to ancient Egypt, where it was likely used as fuel for lamps as well as for medicinal and beauty purposes. Cleopatra reportedly used it to brighten the whites of her eyes. Ricinus communis (castor bean) is an herbaceous plant or semi-woody large shrub or small tree (family Euphorbiaceae). It grows quickly in mild climates and has escaped cultivation to become a noxious weed in southern and central California. . This review was conducted to give; (i) a good botanical description of castor (ii) highlight the castor cultivation methods and techniques (iii) outline various common pests, diseases and their treatments (iv) discuss detailed ecology and (v) highlight various local and industrial uses in Iran
