Biography:
Dr. Matthew A. Xuereb is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Malta, jointly affiliated with the Department of Chemistry and the Metamaterials Unit. He holds a Ph.D. in Metamaterials and a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Materials Science. Currently one of the key researchers on the EXCEL4MED project, Dr. Xuereb applies an interdisciplinary approach to sustainable food systems, focusing on green extraction technologies for the valorisation and functionalisation of agro-industrial waste. Passionate about Mediterranean agriculture and circular and sustainable bioeconomy strategies, he aims to transform valorised food byproducts into high-value resources, potentially incorporating these valorised bioactives into auxetic polymer networks to develop next-generation active food packaging and smart responsive biomaterials.
